The Gütermann quilting thread set contains 7 reels with 80 m each of 100% cotton sewing thread and is intended for hand quilting. The seven colours are natural white, beige, brown, dark brown, pink, red and dark blue. They cover light and dark fabrics as well as classic patchwork colour schemes, so you don't need to buy individual reels separately.

The thread stays smooth when sewing and doesn't kink. This matters in hand quilting, because you sew long runs of even stitches and a twisted thread soon knots. According to Gütermann, the seams are tear- and abrasion-resistant.

What the set is used for

The set is suitable for hand quilting, that is, for stitching through the top fabric, wadding and backing. You can also use it for hand seams in patchwork projects and for sturdy, even decorative stitching. With 80 m per reel, you get a manageable amount of each colour, intended for smaller projects, test pieces or details. For large areas in a single colour, work out roughly how much you need beforehand.

Working with the thread

Don't cut the thread too long; about an arm's length is easy to handle for hand sewing. A shorter thread twists less often and frays less. Use a needle that suits the Ne 39/3 thread weight and choose the colour to match the fabric: close to the fabric shade, the stitches barely show, while a contrast turns them into a visible design feature.
