Botz Liquid Glaze 9364 Nussbraun – opaque, glossy glaze in a medium brown

Botz liquid glaze 9364 Nussbraun is an opaque, medium-brown gloss glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It belongs to the earthenware range for firings from 1020 to 1100 °C and is applied as a liquid with a brush.

As the glaze is opaque, it largely determines the colour of the piece on its own. You also get very good results on coloured clays. It melts out well and does not tend to run, even at 1100 °C. That makes it a straightforward choice if you are looking for a plain, glossy brown glaze. The glaze is also suitable for raku.

Applying the glaze

The glaze is applied to ceramics that have already been bisque-fired. The bisque firing should have reached at least 950 °C so that the clay body takes up the glaze evenly.

• Stir the glaze well, as the pigments settle at the bottom.
• If needed, thin with a little water until it brushes on easily.
• Apply to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush and leave to dry thoroughly.
• If needed, apply a further coat to increase opacity.

Firing and result

Nussbraun is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. This means you can fire it together with other glazes for earthenware. If you are using the glaze for the first time, a test piece made from your own clay will show you how the brown turns out at your firing temperature.
