Botz 9365 Lederbraun Liquid Glaze – Opaque, Glossy Light Brown for Earthenware
Lederbraun (9365) is a Botz brush-on liquid glaze in a light, opaque brown with a glossy finish. Apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics and fire it in the earthenware range. According to Botz, the glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C.
Lederbraun melts out well and does not tend to run, even at 1100 °C. This is useful when you glaze pieces with a base, as the glaze stays where you applied it. Because it is opaque, it covers the clay body and also gives good results on coloured clays. The glaze is also suitable for raku.
Application
The glaze is ready to use, but as the pigments settle, you need to stir it thoroughly before applying. Bisque firing before glazing ensures that the clay body takes up the glaze evenly.
- Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
- Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C)
- Leave to dry thoroughly
- If needed, apply another coat and leave to dry again
Firing and results
In the range of 1020–1060 °C, Lederbraun is stable according to Botz, and the glaze can be fired up to 1100 °C without running. If you have several pieces in the same firing, you can therefore combine Lederbraun with other glazes for earthenware. A test piece will show you how the brown looks on your clay, especially with a dark or strongly coloured clay body.
