Prym Long Sewing Needles No. 5 – Slim Hand Sewing Needles with a Burr-Free Eye
Prym long sewing needles No. 5 (art. no. 121289) are hand sewing needles for all common sewing jobs. The card holds 20 needles, each 40 mm long and 0.80 mm thick. They are made of hardened steel and have a burr-free punched eye, so the thread does not catch.
The point is ground fine and slim, and the surface has a smooth, pore-free coating so the needle glides easily through the fabric. According to Prym, the head of the needle is shaped so that you can guide it well even without a thimble.
Which needle number do you need?
Prym needle numbers run from 1 to 11: the higher the number, the thinner and shorter the needle. In this range, No. 5 is the longest and sturdiest of the long needles, while Nos. 7, 9 and 11 are thinner and shorter. Long needles are usually about 7 mm longer than medium-length ones and so sit more firmly in the hand. For fine fabrics and thin thread, choose a higher number; for firmer fabrics and thicker thread, No. 5 is the better choice.
Tip for threading and sewing
Thread the needle before you start sewing and work with a length of thread that you can comfortably pull out to your elbow. Threads that are too long twist and knot more easily.
