Prym Jersey Needles No. 5–9 – Ballpoint Hand Sewing Needles for Stretch Fabrics
The Prym jersey needles (art. no. 121820) are hand sewing needles for jersey, knitted fabrics and other stretch or finely woven fabrics. The point is rounded. When it goes in, it pushes the fabric threads aside instead of cutting through them. According to Prym, this helps you avoid needle holes, snagged threads and ladders.
The pack contains 10 needles in an assorted range of sizes from No. 5 to 9. The eye is punched burr-free so that the thread does not fray on sharp edges while you sew. The needles are made of hardened, rust-resistant steel.
When to use jersey needles
A normal sharp sewing needle can pierce fine stitches. On jersey, knitted and warp-knitted fabrics, this quickly shows up as a snagged thread or a small ladder. The ballpoint slides between the threads. That is why you use these needles for hems, mending and hand seams on knitted fabrics. They are also useful on finely woven fabrics.
Which size to choose
The assorted mix from No. 5 to 9 covers different fabric weights. The higher the number, the thinner and finer the needle. For fine, thin knitted fabric, choose the higher numbers. For thicker jersey and firmer knits, pick the lower ones. If you are unsure, sew a short test seam on a fabric scrap.
