Where to place the label

Typical places are the side seam or hem, the inside of the neck, a pocket flap or the turn-up of a hat. On light materials the black label gives a clear contrast, while on dark ones it looks more subtle.

Attaching the label

The fabric label can be sewn on with a few hand stitches or with a sewing machine. If the label is to sit within a seam, place it between the layers of fabric before closing the seam. On knitted and crocheted pieces, it is best to sew it on by hand with matching yarn and loose stitches, so that the stitch pattern does not pucker. Plan the position before you start sewing, as a label that has been sewn on is difficult to move.
