Gütermann Cotton Thread Set – 7 Colours for Seams and Decorative Stitching
The Gütermann Naturreine Baumwolle set (art. no. 731145) contains 7 reels of sewing thread in 100 % cotton, each with 100 m, making 700 m in total. The colours are black, white, gold, red, fuchsia, blue and light green. That gives you several shades to hand for small sewing jobs on natural fabrics, without having to buy large reels.
The thread is mercerised, meaning it has a smooth finish, and according to Gütermann it is soft, supple and resistant to tearing and abrasion. It is a top thread of size Ne 50 (size 100, medium) and can be used on the machine or by hand.
What the set is used for
The thread is intended for joining seams and topstitching, as well as for overlock and safety seams and for decorative stitching and seams. It suits cotton fabrics and other natural weaves in particular, because thread and fabric are made of the same fibre and behave similarly when washed and ironed. Black and white cover the basic colours. Gold, red, fuchsia, blue and light green are used for visible decorative seams and accents.
Sewing tips
For the sewing machine, a needle in size NM 60–80 is recommended. Sew a test seam on a scrap of fabric before starting on the actual piece, to set the thread tension and stitch length. If 100 m of one colour is not enough, allow for this before starting your project, as the small reels are intended for repairs, appliqués and smaller projects, not for long seams on large pieces.
