Canson XL Black – black drawing paper with two different sides
On deep black Canson XL Black, light colours, metallic pens and pastel chalks look especially strong. The paper is 150 g/m² and dyed throughout. It has two different sides: use the lightly grained side for pencil, charcoal, pastel and ink pens, and the smooth side for felt-tip pens and markers.
According to Canson, the paper is acid-free to ISO 9706, stands up well to erasing and scratching, and is FSC-certified. The pad is spiral-bound. Please note: because of the perforation, the sheets are slightly smaller than the nominal size once torn out.
Ideas and tips
On black you work the opposite way to white paper: you add highlights rather than shadows. This suits chalk drawings, night scenes, lettering with a white gel pen or sketches with metallic markers. Finish pastel and charcoal drawings with fixative so that nothing smudges.
