Mayco Underglaze UG-232 Olive – muted olive green for ceramic decoration
Mayco Fundamental Underglaze UG-232 Olive is an underglaze in a muted olive green for painting ceramics, supplied in 59 ml. You apply it to greenware or bisque. According to Mayco, wet or leather-hard clay also works, which you then fire to cone 04 (approx. 1063 °C, guide value per Orton chart). The calm green tone suits botanical and floral designs, landscape motifs and rustic designs.
Without glaze, the underglaze fires matt. A clear or matt glaze over it intensifies the colour.
Applying and firing Olive
Shake the underglaze well before use and apply it with a brush; do not spray it. One coat looks translucent, while 2–3 coats give full coverage. Let each coat dry before applying the next. All colours in the Fundamentals series can be mixed with one another. Mayco recommends a test with your own clay and your own kiln, as the result depends on both.
- Firing range: cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 10 (approx. 1285 °C, guide value per Orton chart)
- For cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart), Mayco recommends the zinc-free clear glaze SW-004 with Olive
- Clear glaze and underglaze can be combined in a single firing; according to Mayco, a hold time of 15 minutes helps with blisters or craters
Dinnerware only with clear glaze
Olive is suitable for dinnerware only under a transparent, dinnerware-safe clear glaze (Dinnerware Safe with Clear Glaze). Without clear glaze, use it for decorative pieces. According to ACMI, the AP seal (Approved Product) means that the product requires no hazard labelling.
