Botz Stoneware Engobe 9803 Miami – green matt engobe for stoneware

Botz stoneware engobe 9803 Miami is a green, opaque engobe for decorating leather-hard or bisque-fired clay. It is stable in the firing range of 1180–1280 °C and comes in an 800 ml bottle.

Without a glaze, the engobe fires to a soft, earthy matt finish. It covers well and keeps outlines crisp, so you can fill areas and create clean edges or decoration. With a clear glaze, for example Botz 9300 or 9870, the green becomes rich in colour and glossy.

Applying the engobe

Stir the engobe well before use. Apply 2–3 coats to leather-hard or bisque-fired clay, letting each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. This gives an even, opaque colour. Then fire within the range of 1180–1280 °C.

Matt or glossy – and mixing colours

Fired on its own, the engobe stays matt. For a glossy, vivid surface, cover it with a clear glaze. As engobes in the Botz range can be mixed with one another, you can mix your own shades of green. The series also includes colours such as white, Avocado, Swimmingpool and blue. A test piece on your own clay shows you beforehand how the colour looks with and without a glaze.
