Prym smooth tracing wheel – transfer pattern lines as a continuous line

With the Prym smooth tracing wheel from the prym.ergonomics series, you transfer sewing pattern markings to pattern paper or fabric. The smooth wheel draws a continuous line. According to Prym, the ergonomically shaped handle is designed for fatigue-free working, and the mounted wheels give a smooth run. The design won the Red Dot Design Award in 2010.

If you prefer dotted lines, you need the serrated Prym tracing wheel, which is a separate product. The smooth version suits you if you want to see seam lines, darts or pocket positions as a solid line.

Transferring markings

Place the carbon paper between the fabric and the pattern, with the coloured side facing the fabric. Then run the wheel along the lines, using a ruler where needed. To mark both layers of fabric at once, place the fabric right sides together with a sheet of carbon paper on the outside of each layer, coloured side facing the fabric. Press down evenly so that the line is visible everywhere. Test the marking on a scrap of fabric first, so you know whether it shows up well on your fabric.
