Prym Standard-Elastic 12 mm white – flat elastic for waistbands and hems

Prym Standard-Elastic (art. no. 911420) is a flat white elastic, 12 mm wide and 2 m long. You thread it through hems and waistband casings on trousers, skirts, pyjamas or jackets. Thanks to the zigzag pattern, the elastic threads lie evenly side by side, so the stretch is spread evenly across the width of the band.

The elastic is boil-proof, washable up to 95 °C and tumble-dryer safe. It therefore stays usable even with frequent washing, for example in pyjamas or underwear. Prym states that the yarn is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.

Threading the elastic

Measure the circumference you need and cut the elastic slightly shorter so that it sits snugly later. Allow a small overlap at the ends for sewing them together. The casing in the fabric should be slightly wider than the elastic, otherwise it will twist as you thread it through.

• Attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic and push it through the casing.
• Secure the other end of the elastic to the fabric with a pin so that it does not disappear into the casing.
• Overlap both ends and sew them firmly together with a zigzag or straight stitch, then close the casing.

Which width to choose?

The 12 mm width is intended for waistbands on trousers, skirts and pyjamas, where the elastic needs to give noticeable hold. The range also includes the elastic in a 5 mm width for narrow hems and cuffs, as well as in black. White suits light-coloured fabrics because it does not show through thin fabrics as a dark shadow.
