Prym Kräusel-Elastic white – elastic for fine gathered waistbands

Prym Kräusel-Elastic (art. no. 957134) is a white woven elastic, 25 mm wide and 2 m long. You thread it through the casing of a skirt, trousers or tunic, and it creates a fine gathered effect at the waistband or waist. The elastic is intended for fine, lightweight fabrics, where it adds a fashionable touch.

According to Prym, the supple elastic keeps its shape when stretched and does not feel restrictive. It is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, washable up to 60 degrees and tumble dryer safe. You can therefore care for garments made with it as usual.

Using the gathering elastic

First sew a casing with a channel slightly wider than the elastic, so that it can be threaded through easily. Thread the elastic through with a safety pin or bodkin, making sure it does not twist. Secure one end to the hem, draw the elastic up to the width you want and secure the other end with stitches as well. Try the length on before sewing it in place, as it determines how much the waistband gathers.

Uses

Prym lists skirt and trouser waistbands and tunics as uses. Lightweight fabrics drape softly with the gathered waistband, and the white elastic stays invisible inside the casing.
