LYKKE Umbrella Swift – yarn swift for winding and unwinding skeins

The LYKKE Umbrella Swift is a handmade wooden yarn swift (rosewood). You mount skeins of wool on it and wind them into balls. You can also use the swift the other way round and wind yarn into skeins, for example for washing or dyeing.

The swift has a clamp that attaches it to the edge of a table. Because the umbrella can be adjusted to the size of your skein, skeins of different sizes fit on it. With a maximum diameter of 76.2 cm, that works out as skeins of up to approx. 2.4 m in circumference. Two pins and a storage bag are included. LYKKE gives a five-year guarantee against manufacturing defects.

Unwinding a skein

The swift takes the place of a helper's hands: the skein is held evenly taut and the yarn runs off without tangling.

• Attach the clamp to a sturdy table edge and set up the swift.
• Adjust the umbrella to the size of your skein and place the skein loosely over the spokes.
• Open the umbrella until the skein sits evenly taut, but is not overstretched.
• Only then undo the ties on the skein, so that nothing gets knotted.
• Find the yarn end and wind it into a ball with a ball winder or by hand.

Who is the swift for?

The Umbrella Swift is worthwhile if you buy yarn in skeins, dye your own or want to put washed skeins back into shape. For washing or dyeing, first wind the yarn into a skein. Afterwards it can be unwound again straight away. The height of approx. 60 cm and the maximum diameter of 76.2 cm help you plan your work space. Allow for the table edge and space around the swift accordingly.
