Clover Pattern Cutting Guide – cut the seam allowance on paper patterns as you go

The Clover Pattern Cutting Guide (art. no. 7710) lets you make paper sewing patterns with a seam allowance. Marking and cutting the seam allowance happen in a single step: you run the guide along the seam line and add the allowance as you cut. The allowance can be set between 0.3 and 3.5 cm. This saves you drawing a second line around every pattern piece.

The tool is intended only for paper patterns, not for fabric. A craft knife is not included.

Using the cutting guide

Place your pattern on a cutting mat so the blade does not damage your work surface. Then run the cutting guide along the seam line with the craft knife. The seam allowance is cut at the same time. Cut in smooth, even strokes and keep the distance from the seam line constant, so the allowance is the same width all the way round.

When is the guide useful?

It helps when your patterns come without a seam allowance or when you draft your own. With an adjustable range of 0.3 to 3.5 cm, you can make narrow allowances for fine work as well as wide ones, for hems for example. You then transfer the finished paper pattern to the fabric.
