The Möbius + Ruppert TRICON is a magnesium hand-held pencil sharpener with three sharpening modes for pencils, coloured pencils and artists' pencils. You can sharpen normally, strip back just the wood, or expose the lead and sharpen it separately. That way you decide how long and how sharp the lead becomes, for example for hatching.

The body is made of magnesium and the blade of steel. According to the manufacturer, the blade is screwed in place and replaceable, so the sharpener can keep being used even after long service. Möbius + Ruppert manufactures at its site in Erlangen, Germany.

Using the three sharpening modes

For a long, exposed lead, work in two steps: first strip back just the wood, then sharpen the exposed lead. This gives you a long point for hatching and soft transitions. For quick touch-ups in between, use the normal sharpening mode. With an exposed lead, press only lightly and turn the pencil evenly, as the long point breaks more easily otherwise.

Which pencils fit?

The TRICON is designed for pencils with a diameter of 8.2 mm, so for standard pencils, coloured pencils and artists' pencils with a standard taper. Thicker pencils, such as jumbo pencils, do not fit into the openings.
