Faber-Castell Black Edition Colouring Pencils, 12 in a Metal Tin – for Light and Dark Paper
The Faber-Castell Black Edition colouring pencils in the 12-pencil metal tin have a black wooden barrel and a super soft lead. They are made for light, coloured and dark paper. The lead is highly pigmented and releases colour especially smoothly, so you get strong strokes even on a dark surface.
The lead is protected against breakage by a special bonding. It sits firmly in the wood and is less likely to snap when sharpening or if the pencil is dropped. The ergonomic triangular shape sits comfortably in the hand and can be held loosely even when drawing for longer. According to Faber-Castell, the wood comes from certified sustainable forestry. The black metal tin keeps the 12 pencils together and protects them in your bag or school satchel.
Working on dark paper
On black or dark-coloured paper, the super soft lead covers well even with medium pressure. For light shades, build up the colour in several layers instead of pressing hard. This keeps the paper surface intact and the colour looks more even. Test the effect first on an offcut of the same paper, as a dark surface changes every shade. The pencils are intended for dry techniques.
Which set should you choose?
The set of 12 is enough for sketches, school and getting started with work on dark paper. The same pencils are also available in the series in metal tins of 24 or 36 if you need more shades for blending and layering.
