Faber-Castell Black Edition 12 – colouring pencils with Supersoft lead for light and dark paper

The Faber-Castell Black Edition colouring pencils (art. no. 116412) are triangular pencils with a black wooden barrel, supplied in a cardboard box of 12. According to the manufacturer, the extra soft Supersoft lead lays down a soft stroke of bright colour. Because the lead is highly pigmented, you can draw not only on light paper but also on coloured and dark paper.

The ergonomic triangular shape sits comfortably in the hand. A special bonding process protects the lead from breakage, so it is less likely to snap when sharpened or dropped. The wood comes from certified forestry (FSC).

Working on dark paper

On black or dark blue paper, light and strong shades show up most clearly, while dark colours tend to get lost. Apply the colour with a little more pressure than on white paper and add a second layer if needed. This builds up the brightness of the pigments step by step. Test the colours beforehand on the edge or on a spare sheet, because the colour of the paper affects every shade.

Which pack size to choose

With 12 pencils you have a manageable selection for trying out the Supersoft lead. The Black Edition is also available in a cardboard box as a set of 24, 36 and 50. You will need a larger pack if you want to mix many in-between shades or draw colour gradients.
