Botz 9872 Orange stoneware glaze – glossy and opaque

Botz 9872 Orange is a liquid stoneware glaze for the firing range 1220–1280 °C. It gives a glossy, opaque orange finish and is applied with a brush. The container holds 200 ml.

If you apply the glaze 2 to 3 times, preferably 3, the orange becomes opaque. Applied very thinly, the clay body shows through. Within the firing range of 1220–1280 °C, the stoneware becomes vitrified, no longer absorbs water and is frost-proof.

Application

Stir the glaze well before use so that any settled pigments are evenly distributed again. Brush it onto the bisque-fired piece and let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. For an opaque orange, 2 coats are the minimum; 3 coats are usually the safer choice. If you wipe the base clean before firing, the piece will not stick to the kiln shelf.

Firing and finish

The firing temperature determines how the surface looks. A short test firing on a test piece made from your own clay will show you beforehand how the colour and gloss turn out.
