Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-88 Tu Tu Tango – glaze for brush strokes and details
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-88 Tu Tu Tango is a richly pigmented red ceramic glaze for brush strokes, lines and solid coverage on greenware and bisque-fired ware. According to Mayco, colours from the series placed next to each other do not run into one another. This gives you clean outlines, details and multicoloured designs. The glaze fires to a glossy finish, so you do not need a clear glaze over it.
The bottle contains 236 ml. According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. The AP (Approved Product) seal of the ACMI indicates a product with no hazard labelling.
Layering, mixing and thinning
One coat gives a translucent result, and opacity increases with each further coat. Mayco recommends 2–3 coats for full coverage. All colours in the series can be mixed with one another, so you can create in-between shades. Thinned with water, the glaze gives a wash or watercolour effect for soft, transparent transitions.
- Stir the glaze well before applying
- Let each coat dry before applying the next
- Test mixes and dilutions on a test piece first
Firing and colour effect
According to Mayco, Stroke & Coat is designed to mature at cone 06/05: cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 05 (approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). In a high firing, for example at cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart), the colours may change. According to Mayco, dark colours such as red become darker and light colours fade. Mayco therefore recommends a test before you fire a finished piece at a high temperature.
