BeaverCraft C1 – small whittling knife for fine detail in softwood

The BeaverCraft C1 whittling knife is a small carving tool for fine detail work, shaping and removing material from wood. The blade is made of 1066 carbon steel at 57–59 HRC. You guide the short 60 mm blade close to the edge, which gives you good control for faces, edges and small curves.

The ash handle is polished and treated with natural linseed oil. According to the manufacturer, its ergonomic shape suits both right-handed and left-handed users.

What the C1 is suited to

The C1 is intended for fine work in softwood, for example small figures, spoon details or notches. The Scandi grind with a 20° bevel angle sits well on the wood as you carve and guides you through fine cuts. BeaverCraft does not recommend the knife for hardwood, as the fine edge dulls more quickly there. For heavy material removal on larger workpieces, a larger carving knife is better.

Carving with the C1

Clamp or hold the workpiece securely and wear a carving glove on the hand that holds it. Take many small shavings rather than a few large ones, and always cut away from your body. Watch the direction of the grain: if you cut against the grain, the wood tears out. Turn the piece around and carve from the opposite direction.

Blade care

Carbon steel is not stainless. Wipe the blade dry after carving and occasionally rub it with a little care oil, e.g. camellia oil. Store the knife in a dry place, not damp.
