Edpas whittling wood consists of 10 pieces of solid lime (linden) wood for carving small figures and details. Each piece measures 2.5 × 2.5 × 10 cm, and carving templates are included. Lime is a soft wood that works well with a carving knife, which makes it a good choice for getting started with whittling.

With ten pieces, you can practise the same template several times or try out different designs without using up a large block straight away.

Carving method

First transfer the template or your own sketch to the wood with a pencil. Then cut with the carving knife in small steps, taking several thin shavings rather than one thick one. Work with the grain where possible, as the wood can tear out when you cut against it. Always cut away from your body and wear a cut-resistant glove on the hand that holds the wood. With this slim format, the piece sits securely in your hand. Finally, you can smooth the surface with fine sandpaper.

Which size to choose

The slim pieces with a 2.5 × 2.5 cm cross-section suit small figures, pendants and practice pieces. For larger figures, the same whittling wood is also available as blocks of 7 × 7 × 20 cm in a set of 2.
