Art Clay Silver 7 g – silver clay for fine silver jewellery
Art Clay Silver (Silverclay) is a modelling clay made of fine silver and an organic binder. You can use it to shape jewellery, small sculptures and other pieces in pure silver, without casting or forging. Once dry, you fire the piece: the binder burns away, the silver particles sinter together, and what remains is fine silver of 99.9 % purity.
According to the manufacturer, Art Clay Silver is the basic type in the Art Clay range and can be fired at 650 °C to 800 °C. According to the manufacturer, the silver used is 100 % recycled. This pack contains 7 g, a small amount for smaller pieces or for getting started.
Working with Art Clay Silver
Shape the clay with your fingers or with tools and let the piece dry completely. Only then should it be fired, as residual moisture can cause cracks or bubbles. The clay dries out fairly quickly in the air, so keep any unused clay well wrapped. Make your piece slightly larger than you want it, as it shrinks during firing.
- Kiln: 30 minutes at 650 °C or 5 minutes at 800 °C
- Alternatively with a gas torch or on a gas hob
- After firing, the surface is matt white; use a brass brush and polishing tool to bring the silver to a shine
7 g or more?
With 7 g you can make small pendants, stud earrings or first trials. For larger pieces or several projects in a row, Art Clay Silver is also available in 20 g.
