3M super fine sanding sponge 320–600 – fine sanding on wood and metal

The 3M Super Fine sanding sponge from Efco is a hand-held abrasive for fine sanding on wood and metal. It has a grit of 320–600 and measures 115 × 140 mm. The sponge conforms to contours, so you can sand curves, edges and profiles evenly, where a rigid sanding block would not sit flush.

The fine grit smooths surfaces but removes hardly any material. For heavier work, such as removing old paint or rust, sand first with a coarser grit and use the sponge only for the final sanding.

Sanding with the sponge

Sand wood along the grain and with light pressure so that no cross-grain scratches form. On metal, work evenly in one direction to achieve a uniform finish. Wipe off the sanding dust thoroughly before varnishing or oiling, otherwise particles will be left in the surface.
