Prym dressmaker's ruler – marking seam allowances, buttonholes and cutting lines
The Prym multifunctional dressmaker's ruler (art. no. 611499) helps you mark and draw, for example on sewing patterns or directly on the fabric. It measures 60.5 × 24.5 cm, is made of transparent plastic and can be used for seam allowances, buttonholes and pleats as well as for necklines, armholes, sleeve heads, waist, collar and hip. The transparent material lets you see what lies beneath the ruler.
The straight outer edges carry a 60 cm scale and a 24 cm scale. They let you mark consistent distances such as seam allowances or rows of buttons quickly and evenly. The curved outer edge joins individual marked points into a smooth line.
Using the dressmaker's ruler
For a seam allowance, place the scale against the edge of the fabric or pattern, measure the distance you want and make marks at short intervals. Then join the points with the ruler to form a continuous line. For buttonholes, work out the size on the ruler and mark it directly. After a fitting, use the curved edge to join marked individual points, for example at the waist or armhole, into a gentle curve.
