Gütermann SKALA 200 – fine industrial thread for overlocking, blind hems and safety seams

Gütermann SKALA 200 is a fine industrial thread made of 100% polyester on a large 10,000 m cone. It is a continuous filament, so it is a smooth, even thread with no protruding fibre ends. The long length is mainly useful for sewing workshops, ateliers and production, where changing reels costs time.

SKALA is semi-transparent and blends well with the colour of the fabric, so you need to change thread colour less often. According to Gütermann, the thread leaves no seam impressions after ironing. Choose your colour from the options.

What SKALA 200 is suited to

At Nm 200 (Tex 15), SKALA is a very fine thread. It is suitable for overlocked seams, blind hems and safety seams where the seam should be as inconspicuous as possible. It is also used for edging. The smooth filament structure gives an even thread flow and a clean stitch. For seams that are under heavy strain, a stronger thread is the better choice.

Sewing with fine filament thread

Gütermann recommends needles in size Nm 60–65 (no. 8–9). A needle that is too thick makes larger holes and makes fine fabrics pucker more easily. Set the thread tension on a scrap of fabric before sewing the actual seam, as fine threads react quickly to excessive tension. The 10,000 m cone is intended for use on machines with a suitable thread stand.
