Gütermann Extra Strong set – 5 reels of sewing thread for hard-wearing seams

The Gütermann Extra Strong sewing thread set contains 5 reels of 100 m of sewing thread each in basic colours, 500 m in total. The thread is made of 100 % polyester, is tear-resistant and stretchy, and is intended for seams under heavy strain, for example on jeans, leather, tarpaulins or coarse fabrics.

Size 40 is much stronger than a fine all-purpose thread. You can use it to sew joining seams on jackets and bags or to repair rucksacks, tarpaulins and upholstery, so the seam doesn't give way again straight away.

Uses for the set

The combination of tear resistance and slight stretch makes this thread a good choice for seams that have to withstand a lot of tension in everyday use. You can use it in a sewing machine and for hand sewing.

Sewing tips

Match the needle to the fabric: for jeans and leather, use a sturdy needle of a suitable size, and for leather preferably a leather needle. Before you start sewing, make a test seam on an offcut so that you can check the thread tension and stitch length. For thick layers of fabric, a slightly longer stitch length is usually worthwhile.
