Prym plastic straight knitting needles – light and sturdy for chunky yarn

Prym plastic straight knitting needles are 40 cm long and made for large stitches and chunky yarn, for example snoods, cardigans and jumpers. One card contains 1 pair, i.e. 2 needles.

According to Prym, the needles are light and sturdy, and the needle size is clearly marked. That way you can spot the right needle straight away, even with several sizes in the basket. From size 12, the shaft is white with blue tips and heads and is hollow. This keeps the weight of the thick needles down, so larger projects are less tiring to work.

Which needle size to choose

The series is available in large needle sizes from 8 mm. Choose your colour, and with it the needle size, from the options. Go by the needle size on the ball band of your yarn or by your pattern. The thicker the yarn and needles, the looser and more voluminous the fabric. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide.

What is the 40 cm length suited to?

At 40 cm, the needles suit pieces with a manageable number of stitches, such as snoods, scarves or sleeves. For very wide pieces, such as a jumper worked in one piece, the needles become crowded. In that case it is better to work in sections or use a circular needle.
