Faber-Castell Colour Grip 24 – water-soluble coloured pencils in a metal tin

The Faber-Castell Colour Grip coloured pencils in the set of 24 colours are triangular, water-soluble pencils for drawing and watercolour effects. You can draw dry as with an ordinary coloured pencil, or spread the colour with a wet brush into soft gradients.

The barrel has an ergonomic triangular shape with a patented grip zone, so the pencil sits securely in your hand. It suits both right- and left-handed users. The lead is break-resistant thanks to a special bonding process, the lead is soft, and the pencils come in a sturdy metal tin. Each pencil has a name field so that nothing gets mixed up, for example at school. The colour can be washed out of most textiles.

Working with water-soluble coloured pencils

Start by drawing dry and lay in areas with more or less pressure. Then go over the colour with a damp brush: it dissolves and looks like watercolour. For strong tones, apply more colour beforehand; for delicate glazes, use less. Use paper that can cope with moisture, such as watercolour or heavier drawing paper, so that it does not cockle too much. The soft lead releases plenty of colour and is well suited to areas and gradients.

Which set to choose

The Colour Grip coloured pencils are also available in a metal tin with 12 and with 36 colours. With 24 colours you can mix shades well by layering and blending, while still keeping a manageable tin.
