Talens Ecoline Liquid Watercolour with Pipette, 30 ml Glass

Talens Ecoline – liquid watercolour with pipette for watercolour, illustration and calligraphy

Talens Ecoline is a liquid watercolour paint for watercolours, illustrations, designs and calligraphy. It comes in a 30 ml glass bottle with a pipette cap. Choose your colour from the options.

Ecoline is based on dyes and gum arabic, not on pigments like classic watercolour paint. The range comprises 60 shades: 58 are transparent, while white and gold are opaque. Transparent colours look best on white or very pale paper, because the surface shows through. On dark paper they hardly show up.

Working with Ecoline

The bottle has a wide opening, so you can dip a brush or pen straight into the paint. Use the pipette to dose the paint onto a mixing palette or directly onto your picture. Ecoline adheres to watercolour paper, drawing paper and card, and can be mixed with water and a brush. Wet-on-wet techniques are possible. As the paint is not waterproof, dried paint can be re-wetted. You can therefore carry on working on a piece at any time, but take care when painting over so that the layers underneath do not run.

Lightfastness and storage

According to the manufacturer, dyes usually have poor to moderate lightfastness. If you want to keep originals, store them away from light, for example in a portfolio, and do not hang them in a window permanently. For work that will later be scanned or printed, this is not a drawback.
