Talens Ecoline Brush Pen – brush pen for watercolour effects and hand lettering

The Talens Ecoline Brush Pen is a brush pen with a flexible tip and water-based, dye-based ink. You can use it for watercolour effects, illustrations, sketches and hand lettering without needing a brush and a glass of water. Choose your colour from the options.

The ink is made from dyes and gum arabic. It can be thinned with water or with the Brush Pen Blender, giving you light washes and soft gradients. The pen is matched to the liquid Talens Ecoline colours in bottles, so you can mix the two in one picture.

Working with the Brush Pen

The pen adheres well to watercolour paper, drawing paper and card. For soft transitions, dampen the paper and apply the colour wet-in-wet; it will then spread by itself. For light washes, thin the colour directly on the paper with a damp brush or the Brush Pen Blender. With the flexible tip you can switch between fine and broader lines depending on the pressure, which adds movement to your lettering, especially in hand lettering.

Storage and care

Store the pen horizontally so that the dye is distributed evenly. If the tip dries out, moisten it with a few drops of water and you can carry on painting. The ink is water-soluble and can be reactivated with water. Keep finished original artworks in a portfolio to preserve the colour.
