Conté à Paris Sanguine Set – 6 sketching pencils in red, brown, black and white
The Conté à Paris set contains 6 sketching pencils from the Esquisse range for sketches and studies: three Sanguine shades, Sépia, Pierre Noire 3B and Blanc. You can draw landscapes, nudes, portraits and still lifes in warm earth tones, and use the black and white for contrast and highlights.
All the pencils draw dry and blend easily. Use your finger or a blending stump to model transitions and shadows. The set is made in France.
Which pencil for what?
The shades complement one another, so it is worth combining them:
- 610 Sanguine: deep red to rust, often used for figure sketches
- 618 Sanguine Médicis: darker than Sanguine and reminiscent of Renaissance sanguine
- 611 Sanguine XVIIIe: particularly intense and vivid with a slight orange tone
- 617 Sépia: colour like burnt umber, dry and easy to blend
- 1710 Pierre Noire 3B: intense, matt and impossible to erase, for strong contrasts
- 630 Blanc: dry, transparent line, used mainly with a sharpened lead, for highlights
Working method
For more elaborate work, start the drawing with the Sanguine shades and add Pierre Noire for contrast and Blanc for highlights. As Blanc draws transparently, it shows up better on toned paper than on white. Pierre Noire cannot be erased, so add the darkest accents last.
