Hahnemühle D&S Sketch Book, A3 Portrait, 80 Sheets, 140 gsm

Hahnemühle D&S Sketch Book A3 – 80 Sheets for Pencil and Watercolour Pencils

The Hahnemühle D&S Sketch Book in A3 format (portrait) is a sketchbook with 80 sheets of natural white paper at 140 gsm. You can use it for drawings in pencil and watercolour pencils, for studies and for collecting ideas.

The book has a black cover and is thread-bound. According to Hahnemühle, the book lies flat over several pages. This means you can draw across the fold without the binding getting in the way.

Which techniques suit the paper?

The surface is fine and non-slip and, according to Hahnemühle, has very good abrasion properties. The manufacturer describes the book as well suited to pencil and watercolour pencils; dry painting techniques and light watercolour washes are also possible. At a paper weight of 140 gsm, it is a sketching paper and not a watercolour paper. For washes, therefore, work with very little water, otherwise the sheet will cockle.

Who is the A3 format suitable for?

The large portrait format gives you room for figure studies, still lifes and generous sketches. If you mainly want to use the book on the move, bear in mind that A3 takes up more space in a bag than smaller formats. The acid-free, age-resistant paper construction helps your drawings to look good later on too.
