Botz Stoneware Glaze 9895 Sandgranit – satin sand yellow with black speckles

Botz stoneware glaze 9895 Sandgranit is a liquid, satin glaze for stoneware with a firing range of 1220–1280 °C. It gives a sand-yellow, opaque finish with fine black speckles. If you want a warm, natural-looking granite effect on your ceramics, this is a suitable shade.

Fired within its firing range, the glaze becomes frost-proof and vitrified, so it does not absorb water. That makes it of interest for stoneware that will also stand outdoors, for example plant pots or garden ceramics.

How the glaze looks at different temperatures

The colour effect depends on the firing temperature. Choose the temperature according to the tone you want:

• 1220 °C: satin matt egg-yolk yellow
• 1250 °C: satin sand yellow with fine black speckles (recommended firing temperature, hold time 30 minutes)
• 1280 °C: satin pastel yellow with fine light and black speckles

Application and firing

Stir the glaze well before use, as particles settle at the bottom. Apply 2 to 3 coats with a brush, preferably 3, and let each coat dry thoroughly. The third coat gives a more even colour. Wipe the foot ring of the piece clean so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf during firing. A test piece will show you in advance how the speckles turn out with your clay and your kiln.
