Rico Design warp thread – fine cotton yarn for warping a weaving loom

Rico Design warp thread in 100 % cotton is designed for warping a weaving loom: it forms the warp threads through which you later weave the weft. The yarn is very fine and hard-wearing, so it withstands the tension on the loom. It is not waxed. One ball weighs 50 g and has a length of 280 m. Choose your colour from the options.

The 280 m will help you plan quantities: the length of one warp run multiplied by the number of warp threads gives a rough idea of what your project needs. Typical weaving projects are placemats or small rugs.

Warping the loom

For the warp threads you need a yarn that can be pulled taut without snapping. That is what this warp thread is made for. Tension the threads evenly and with equal spacing, otherwise the fabric will be wavy or uneven at the edges. The spacing of the warp threads also determines how dense the weave will be: the closer together you set them, the finer the woven piece.

• Secure the yarn to the loom and take the warp threads around the notches or teeth at even intervals
• Pull the threads taut, but do not overstretch them
• Pass the weft yarn alternately over and under the warp threads and press it down

Care

The yarn is hand washable up to 30 °C. Wash your finished woven pieces gently at a low temperature so that the fabric keeps its shape.
