Rayher mosaic nippers – breaking glass tiles and trimming edges
With the Rayher mosaic nippers (20 cm, also known as glass nippers or glass breaking pliers), you break glass tiles into small pieces for glass mosaics. The nippers are made of steel and have hard carbide edges. They cut glass tiles up to 0.5 cm thick.
A spring in the handle opens the nippers again automatically after every cut. This lets you work tile by tile without having to readjust your grip each time. You can also use the nippers to tidy up or correct glass edges.
Working with the nippers
The nippers break the tile rather than cut it, so the shape of the pieces is fairly random. This suits mosaics that are meant to look lively and irregular. For pieces in a specific shape, you will need a different method.
- Put on safety goggles and work on a surface where you can easily sweep up splinters.
- Hold the glass tile near the edge and position the nippers where you want it to break.
- Squeeze the handles together; the spring then opens the nippers again.
- Correct protruding or sharp edges bit by bit by nipping off small pieces.
