Rico Design Darning Egg + Darning Mushroom – Wooden Set for Darning Holes

This set of darning egg and darning mushroom from Rico Design helps you darn holes in socks, sleeves and other garments. Both pieces are made of natural, unvarnished wood. The fabric sits taut on the curved surface while you darn, and you can see the edges of the hole more clearly.

The set comes in plastic-free packaging. With two sizes, you have the right tool to hand for small and larger areas.

How to darn a hole

Slide the darning mushroom or darning egg under the hole so that the fabric lies smooth over the curve. Then, using a darning needle and yarn, first stitch parallel threads across the hole, each extending a little beyond the edge into the firm fabric. Next, weave threads across them, alternately over and under the first threads, until the hole is filled.

• Pull the threads only lightly, otherwise the area will pucker and become hard.
• Choose a yarn that matches the garment in thickness and material.
