Prym short darning needles – assortment No. 1–9 for darning socks and wool
The Prym short darning needles (art. no. 124663) are an assortment of 10 needles in sizes 1–9, for darning and mending socks and woollen clothing. They are made of hardened steel, and the surface is burr-free and rust-resistant. The large eye takes thicker yarns and wool, and the short needles let you place your stitches precisely.
As the assortment includes several sizes, you have the right needle to hand for both fine and heavier darning.
Which needle suits your yarn?
Choose a needle that lets the yarn pass through the eye without force and does not stretch the hole in the fabric unnecessarily. With needle numbers, the general rule is: the higher the number, the finer the needle. For sock yarn or thin darning yarn, you will therefore tend to use the higher numbers, and the lower ones for thicker yarn.
How to darn a hole in a sock
First stretch threads lengthways across the hole, going into the firm fabric on both sides. Then weave in cross threads, alternately over and under the lengthways threads. Work beyond the edge of the hole and pull the thread only loosely, so that the area does not pucker.
