DEKA Textilfarbe aktuell – boil-fast reactive dye for natural fibres

DEKA Textilfarbe aktuell is a powdered reactive dye for colouring textiles made from natural fibres such as cotton, linen and viscose. The dyeing is boil-fast: depending on the fabric, you can wash the dyed textile at up to 95 °C. Choose your colour from the options.

The sachet contains 10 g of dye powder. That is enough for about 150 g of fabric in a strong shade and up to 250 g in a paler shade. The dye only bonds to the fibre with the DEKA aktuell fixative (Reaktionsmittel). Without this fixative the colour is not fixed. It is not included.

Dyeing step by step

The fabric must be free of stains and finishing agents. Fabric softener also counts as a finishing agent. DEKA-TextilFit is suitable for removing them completely. Then proceed as follows:

• Dissolve the dye thoroughly in 1/2 litre of hot water.
• Fill a plastic container with 3 litres of hot water, stir in and dissolve 150 g of salt, then pour in the dye solution.
• Wet the fabric, wring it out and place it in the dye bath while still damp. Move it around well and wear rubber gloves.
• Dissolve the fixative (20 g sachet) in 1/2 litre of water. After 5 minutes of dyeing time, pour it slowly into the bath while stirring.
• Dye the fabric for 30–60 minutes, stirring and turning it frequently. It should float freely and loosely and be completely covered.
• Rinse thoroughly with clear water, then wash out with detergent.

What affects the result

The shade depends on the concentration and temperature of the bath, the dyeing time and the type of fabric. Pure synthetics do not take the dye, and with mixed fabrics the result is only partly predictable. White or pale fabric shows the shade most clearly. Dyeing in the washing machine is possible. Avoid contact of concentrated dye with eyes and skin. Wear rubber gloves. In rare cases, direct skin contact with concentrated dye may cause allergic reactions or sensitisation of the respiratory tract. Do not inhale the dye powder. Keep away from children. NOT A TOY.
