DMC Cebelia crochet thread N:30 is a very fine, 3-ply crochet thread made from 100% cotton for delicate work such as lace, doilies, edgings and decorative accessories. It is combed, gassed and double mercerised. This gives the thread sheen, strength and an even structure. According to DMC, Cebelia is colourfast and fade-resistant and is made in France.

One ball weighs 50 g and has a length of approx. 520 m. Fine patterns use a lot of metres but very little weight. The length therefore helps you judge whether one ball will be enough for your doily or lace edging.

Which Cebelia size to choose

With Cebelia, the higher the number, the finer the thread. N:30 is the finest of the three sizes N:10, N:20 and N:30 in this series. It suits work that should look delicate and openwork, such as lace edgings, small doilies or decorative elements. For slightly sturdier pieces that work up more quickly, choose a thicker size. Because the thread is double mercerised, patterns with sheen and clear stitch definition show to good effect.

Crocheting with fine thread

Choose a fine crochet hook in the size given in your pattern. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Crochet loosely enough that you can see where to insert the hook. Stitches worked too tightly make fine work stiff and make it harder to insert the hook in the next row. For patterns with many chain loops, a small tension swatch is worthwhile before you start the whole doily.
