DMC Cebelia No. 20 – glossy crochet cotton for fine lace

DMC Cebelia No. 20 crochet cotton is a 3-ply thread made from 100% cotton, for fine crochet projects such as doilies, lace and edgings. It is combed, gassed and double mercerised. Combing and gassing give a smooth surface, while double mercerising adds shine and strength. According to DMC, the thread is colourfast and fade-resistant.

One ball weighs 50 g and has a length of approx. 380 m. With this length, you can often work smaller doilies or edgings from a single ball. For larger tablecloths, plan for several balls.

What No. 20 is used for

The smooth, glossy surface makes stitches and patterns stand out clearly. This makes the thread well suited to delicate crochet projects such as tablecloths, lace edgings or decorative accessories. Mercerised cotton also takes colour and shine well and keeps its shape. This matters for work that will later be starched or blocked.

Which size to choose

Cebelia is also available in sizes 10 and 30. The higher the number, the finer the thread: with the same ball weight of 50 g, No. 10 has approx. 260 m, No. 20 approx. 380 m and No. 30 approx. 520 m. No. 20 sits in between. It is finer than No. 10 and suits lace that should look delicate without your having to work with the very finest thread. Before you start, crochet a small swatch to check the density of the lace.
