Lang Yarns CREALINO – soft linen yarn for lightweight summer projects

Lang Yarns CREALINO is a 100 % linen yarn in DK weight for lightweight summer garments, shawls and accessories. The manufacturer describes it as super-soft. Each ball weighs 50 g and has a length of approx. 165 m. Choose your colour from the options.

Linen is a plant fibre and feels different from wool or cotton: it looks natural and slightly matt, and has very little elasticity. With 3–4 mm needles you get an airy, fluid fabric. It suits summer tops, lightweight jumpers, shawls and stoles.

What to use CREALINO for

The length of approx. 165 m per 50 g helps with planning quantities: larger garments need several balls. According to the manufacturer's data sheet, yarn requirements are roughly 300 g for a women's garment in size M, approx. 400 g for a men's garment in size M and approx. 200 g for a child's garment for age 10. The exact amount depends on the design, so follow the yarn requirements given in your pattern. Shawls and accessories need correspondingly fewer balls.

Working with linen yarn

Linen has very little give when knitting or crocheting, so the yarn may feel a little stiffer running through your fingers at first. Work with even tension to keep the fabric smooth. As a guide, the manufacturer gives 21 stitches and 32 rows over 10 × 10 cm on 3–4 mm needles. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Wash and dry your tension swatch in the same way as the finished piece before you measure it, as linen can change when washed. For care, Lang Yarns recommends a detergent for delicates with fabric softener to keep the linen supple.
