Caran d'Ache LUMINANCE 6901 Permanent Coloured Pencils, Set of 20

Caran d'Ache LUMINANCE 6901 – 20 permanent coloured pencils with a creamy lead

The Caran d'Ache LUMINANCE 6901 set contains 20 permanent artists' coloured pencils for drawings, sketches and mixed-media work. The lead is creamy, 3.8 mm in diameter, with a high pigment concentration and maximum opacity. This lets you lay down rich colour and layer tones over one another.

According to Caran d'Ache, the lightfastness meets the highest international standards (ASTM D6901). That matters if you plan to hang your drawings framed on the wall or keep them in a sketchbook for a long time. The barrel is made of FSC™-certified cedar wood, and the pencils are Swiss Made.

Working with the pencils

The creamy lead is well suited to shading, layering colours and mixed techniques. For soft gradients, start with light pressure and build up the colour in several layers; this keeps transitions even. For watercolour effects, Caran d'Ache recommends combining them with SUPRACOLOR Soft Aquarelle, and for fine details and hatching with PABLO.

Set of 20 or set of 12?

With 20 shades you can mix more nuances directly from the pencil colours, for example for portraits, landscapes and illustrations. The set of 12 in this series is enough as an introduction to the range or for drawings with just a few basic colours.
