Botz Stoneware Glaze 9894 Beigegranit – satin beige with black speckles

Botz stoneware glaze 9894 Beigegranit is an opaque liquid glaze for stoneware with a firing range of 1220–1280 °C. It fires to a satin beige with fine black speckles and gives cups, bowls or vases a calm, stone-like surface.

The colour depends on the firing temperature. At 1220 °C the beige is slightly yellowish, at 1250 °C it is a light beige, in each case with fine black speckles. At 1280 °C it becomes a light greyish white with fine brown and black speckles, which looks particularly like natural stone. If you want to emphasise the granite character, fire at the upper end of the range. For a clear, light beige, 1250 °C is the temperature to choose.

Application and firing

Stir the glaze well before use, as particles settle at the bottom. Apply it with a brush in 2 to 3 coats, preferably 3, and let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. An even coat thickness gives an evenly opaque finish.

Which temperature to choose?

The speckles come from the glaze itself and change with the heat: at 1220 °C they are fine and black on a slightly yellowish beige, while at 1280 °C brown speckles appear on a light greyish white. If you are firing several pieces in one kiln, fire a test piece first at the temperature of your own kiln position, as the temperature can vary slightly depending on where a piece sits in the kiln. When glazing, keep the foot of each piece free of glaze and protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash in case the glaze does run.
