Product information

Botz Stoneware Glaze 9884 Wieselbraun – glossy medium brown with fine effects

Wieselbraun (9884) is a liquid, glossy and opaque stoneware glaze from Botz in a medium brown. The surface shows fine light and dark effects that give it character. The glaze is made for a firing range of 1,220 to 1,280 °C and comes in an 800 ml container.

The amount applied determines the shade: a very thin coat gives a darker brown, while three coats turn out slightly lighter. A thin coat therefore gives you the darker tone, and two coats are the norm. After firing, the stoneware is vitrified and frost-proof within the firing range, so it does not absorb water.

Applying Wieselbraun

Stir the glaze well before use, as the particles settle in the container. Apply it with a brush to dust-free, bisque-fired ceramics. Let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. According to Botz, two coats are the norm, and with three the colour becomes slightly lighter. A test piece shows you beforehand how your clay and the number of coats affect the result.

Firing

Fire within the firing range of 1,220 to 1,280 °C. Botz recommends 1,250 °C with a 30-minute hold. The hold gives the glaze time to close up and develop its effects.

  • Firing range: 1,220–1,280 °C
  • Recommended firing temperature: 1,250 °C
  • Hold time: 30 minutes
  • Application: 2–3 coats, preferably 2
