Prym ball-head safety pins 34/41/48 mm, pack of 10

Prym ball-head safety pins – gentle on fabric, in three sizes

Prym ball-head safety pins are safety pins for temporarily tacking and pinning fabrics together. Instead of the classic coil, the pin has a small plum-blue plastic ball. According to Prym, it is gentle on the fabric. This also makes the pins look a little more decorative than a plain safety pin.

The pack contains 10 pins, assorted in lengths of 34, 41 and 48 mm (nos. 1 to 3). They are made of rust-protected steel and are silver-coloured. According to Prym, the steel has a balanced spring tension, so the pins close firmly even when opened and closed often.

Which length for which fabric?

The three lengths cover different jobs. Use the short 34 mm pin for fine, thin fabrics and small areas to be tacked. The 41 mm pin suits normal layers of fabric. With the 48 mm pin you can hold thicker fabric or several layers together.

Use

Push the pin only through the layers of fabric you want to fix, and close it again straight away. This keeps the layers together while you try on or sew. On particularly fine fabrics, pin only through the seam allowance so that no visible holes are left on the right side. The pins have a sharp point, so close them after use and store them safely.
