da Vinci CASANEO Series 5597 Sword Brush for Watercolour

da Vinci CASANEO Sword Brush – Watercolour Brush for Fine Lines and Broad Strokes

The CASANEO sword brush, series 5597, from da Vinci is a watercolour brush with an angled head made of extra-soft synthetic fibres. The fibres are very springy and hold a lot of paint, so you can cover larger areas without constantly re-dipping. They are set in a silver ferrule, and the short hexagonal wooden handle is polished black.

The brush is robust and hard-wearing. The hexagonal handle sits well in the hand and does not roll away on the table. Choose your size from the options.

Working with the sword brush

The angled shape makes the brush versatile: use the edge to draw fine lines, outlines and details, and the stroke becomes broader with slightly more pressure. It is also suitable for edges, corners, geometric shapes, floral motifs and calligraphy. For applying colour over larger areas, lay the brush flatter on the paper and pull the stroke through in one go.

• Fine line: hold the brush more upright and use only the edge
• Broad stroke: guide the brush flatter and apply a little more pressure
• Loading paint: dip the fibres in water, then into the paint, and wipe them off on the edge of the palette so nothing drips

Care

After painting, rinse the brush in clean water, shape the fibres and leave it to dry lying flat. This keeps the tip in good condition.
