Gütermann Metallic Effect Thread Set – 10 reels for sparkling decorative stitches

The Gütermann metallic effect thread set (art. no. 734007-1) contains 10 reels of 50 m each, 500 m in total, in 8 shades, with two colours included twice. You can use it for sparkling decorative stitches and decorative topstitching, add glittering accents to craft projects, or carry the thread along with your yarn when knitting and crocheting.

The thread is made of 70 % polyamide and 30 % polyester. According to Gütermann, it is suitable for all fabrics and weaves as well as many other materials. The set gives you several shades to try without having to buy large reels straight away.

What to use the metallic effect thread for

Gütermann lists sparkling decorative stitches, decorative topstitching and creative craft ideas as uses. You can also use the thread as a carry-along yarn together with wool or yarn when knitting and crocheting, so that individual sections sparkle. For long seams in a single colour, 50 m per reel is quite short. The set is therefore better suited to accents, borders, monograms and small projects.

Sewing with metallic thread

Gütermann recommends using the metallic effect thread as the needle thread and the sew-all thread as the bobbin thread. Metallic threads create more friction and break more easily than ordinary sewing thread. These steps will help you get better results:

• Use a needle with a larger eye so that the thread chafes less.
• Loosen the upper thread tension slightly.
• Sew more slowly than usual.
• Test-sew on a scrap of fabric before you begin your project.
