Pitt Graphite PURE – woodless graphite pencil for sketching and shading

The Pitt Graphite PURE by Faber-Castell is a solid graphite pencil without a wooden casing, for sketches, graphic work and shading large areas. The pencil is made entirely of graphite and has a protective sleeve to keep your hands and your drawing clean. Choose your grade from the options (HB, 6B or 9B); you receive one single pencil.

Sharpened with a standard sharpener, it draws fine lines. Using the side of the lead, you can shade large areas without constantly resharpening. According to Faber-Castell, different effects are produced depending on pressure and grade.

Which grade to choose

HB is the hardest and lightest grade: it suits preliminary sketches and fine lines. 6B is softer and stronger, while 9B gives the softest and darkest line. For drawings with many gradations, combine several grades.

Working with the solid graphite pencil

Sharpen the pencil for outlines and details, just like a wooden pencil. For shading, hold it flat and pull the side of the lead across the paper; light pressure gives a pale tone, firmer pressure a darker one. If you place a sheet of paper under your drawing hand, the drawing is less likely to smudge.
