Working with the set

With graphite, the higher the number before the B, the softer and darker the line. Start with 2B for the preliminary sketch, build up shadows with 4B and 6B, and use 8B and 9B for the deepest areas. The jumbo pencils and the graphite sticks cover larger areas faster than the slim pencils. Soft graphite smudges easily: use the blending stump to blend transitions, and lift out highlights with the kneadable eraser by pressing it onto the surface without rubbing. Use the plastic eraser for clean edges.

Start by drawing with the watercolour graphite pencils dry. If you then go over the lines with a damp watercolour brush, the strokes dissolve into grey washes. For this, it is best to use paper that can take moisture, such as watercolour paper.
